Ezzeddine Ben Rayana

Ezzeddine Ben Rayana

Vice President QA, QC & RA

As Vice President Quality at Bachem Vionnaz,  Ezzeddine is responsible for quality assurance, quality control and regulatory affairs. He is a chemist by training, joining Bachem Vionnaz in 1991, just after he completed his PhD. He has held various positions within the quality department. He actively participated in the implementation of the GMP concept at Bachem Vionnaz, surviving 7 US-FDA and 15 Swissmedic inspections and more than 200 customer audits.

Dirk Bächle

Vice President, Quality Control

Dirk is the Vice President of Quality Control based in Bubendorf (Switzerland). He holds a PhD and a Master’s Degree in Peptide Chemistry from the University of Bielefeld (Germany). He joined Bachem in 2005, and started his career working as a group leader in Quality Control. After being promoted to department head Quality Control for Raw and Starting Materials he became Vice President Quality Control in 2019.

Since 2019, Boris has been leading the sales organisation in Europe as VP BD & Sales at Bachem. During his 20 years at Bachem, he has held various positions, enabling the company to generate value for partners and help them achieve their goals. Pascal Degen

Pascal Degen

Vice President, Global Supply Chain Management

Pascal is the Vice President of Global Supply Chain Management based in Bubendorf (Switzerland). He holds a Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering and Pharmaceutical Management from the Swiss Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich. Pascal gained broad operations management experience in various industries and functions for almost 20 years before joining Bachem in April 2019 as Vice President for Supply Chain Management.

Frank Dettner

Frank Dettner

Site Manager Torrance, Bachem Americas, Inc.

Frank studied chemistry in Tuebingen (Germany). He obtained his PhD from the Technical University of Berlin in synthetic peptide chemistry with Prof. Suessmuth. Frank started in Bachem’s R&D group as laboratory head in 2009 and held a director position from 2012 to 2014 focusing on non-GMP synthesis of peptides and small proteins and process research. From 2015-2020 he was a director in the R&D group at Bachem headquarters in Bubendorf (Switzerland) focusing on GMP manufacturing of peptide based active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) and new chemical entities (NCEs). Since 2020 he is Site Manager of the facility in Torrance (California).

Jean-Marc Fellay

Vice President Services

As Vice President Services working on the Vionnaz site, Jean-Marc is responsible for human resources, supply chain, engineering and administration. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in business administration and is experienced in human resources management as well as in finance and controlling. Jean-Marc has a pragmatic approach to solving problems and he has successfully driven different projects in finance and human resources during the last decade.

Vice President Finance Europe

Uwe has worked as VP Finance Europe for Bachem since 2013. He is accountable for finance and controlling for the regions of Europe and Asia. He is a finance professional with 20+ years of experience in the food and pharmaceutical industry. Before joining Bachem, he held various positions at Roche and Kraft Foods. His goal at Bachem is to ensure “financial peace,” while supporting the business to leverage efficiency.

Brian Gregg

Brian Gregg

COO, Bachem Americas, Inc.

Brian is the Chief Operating Officer for the Americas since 2013, with responsibility for the two manufacturing sites at Torrance and Vista.  Brian started his career with Bachem in 1991 as a chemist synthesizing research grade peptides by SPPS, ultimately moving to GMP peptide manufacturing.  After nearly a decade in manufacturing, Brian transitioned to quality and compliance, leading the Torrance site quality unit for 12 years.  Brian has a Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry from the University of California, San Diego, and a MBA from San Diego State University. 

Gerhard Haas

Vice President Quality, Bachem Europe

Gerhard is currently heading the Central Function Quality of Bachem’s European sites. Before, he led the QA/RA department of the Bubendorf site for more than 10 years. Gerhard has been with Bachem since 1992 in Switzerland and the U.S. in various positions including QA, Production, and R&D. He holds a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Stuttgart, Germany.

Tobias Hauck

Vice President of Quality, Bachem Torrance

Tobias holds a Master’s degree in Food Chemistry and a PhD in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Wuerzburg (Germany). He joined Bachem in 2014 as Vice President Quality Control in Bubendorf (Switzerland). Since 2019, Tobias is Vice President of Quality at the Torrance (California) facility. In this role he oversees the site QC and QA operations. Before joining Bachem, Tobias worked in various leadership positions in Analytical Development and Quality Control at Carbogen Amcis (CMO for small molecules) and Mepha/Acino (drug product manufacturer). Tobias strives for continuous improvement and is passionate about being part of Bachem’s fast-paced development.

Vice President of Quality, Bachem San Diego

Wilbur joined Bachem as Vice President of Quality at Bachem San Diego (BSD) in 2019. Prior to Bachem, Wilbur worked for over 17 years in roles of increasing leadership in Manufacturing, Manufacturing Science and Technology and Quality at Genentech and Roche. Wilbur has a Bachelor’s Degree in Fiber and Polymer Science from the University of California, Davis, and a MBA from Saint Mary’s College of California. Wilbur has built a successful and diverse career based on a strong focus and pragmatism for quality and compliance.

Gary is responsible for Business Development and Sales for the Asia Pacific regions. He established Bachem Japan K.K. in 2018. Gary is a dependable and results-driven business professional with 30 years of progressive experience supporting diverse functions in peptide contract manufacturing for the pharmaceutical and biotech industries. His professional competencies include business development, sales, marketing, product management, and logistics.  Before joining Bachem, Gary worked at American Peptide Company in various leadership roles.

Peter Hutchings

Vice President BD & Sales, Americas

Peter joined Bachem in 2013 as Vice President of Business Development and Sales, Americas. Peter has more than 30 years of commercial experience in the life science and pharmaceutical arenas and is proud to be part of a growing, customer-focused team at Bachem. Prior to moving into the commercial world, Peter’s laboratory experience includes being a Biochemist and then Clinical Biochemist at the Roslin Institute (Edinburgh) and then the Oncology Department, Charing Cross Hospital (London). Prior to joining Bachem, Peter held various management positions, in both Europe and the United States, at companies including: Packard (now Perkin Elmer), RTS Lifescience (now Brookes Life Sciences) and Silicon Biosystems (now Menarini Silicon Biosystems).

Vice President Central Function Quality

Fariba joined Bachem in 2015 as Vice President of Central Function Quality. In this role, Fariba is responsible for Quality Systems, Validation and Regulatory Affairs for Torrance and San Diego sites. Fariba has more than 30 years of experience in Quality Control and Quality Assurance and has held various management positions in the Biotechnology sector including at Amgen and Baxter. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology from Michigan State University and a Master’s Degree in Industrial Microbiology from Long Island University.

Jens Köditz

Jens Köditz

Vice President Production, Bachem AG

Jens studied biology and chemistry, did his PhD in organic chemistry, and postdoc in the USA. He gained his professional experience in R&D, pilot plants, production and QA at Dottikon Exclusive Synthesis, Abbott and Biotronik. Since 2014, he has been Head of Production LPPS at Bachem AG in Bubendorf. It is a very exciting and challenging position to lead this area as a one-stop-shop for LPPS, where knowledge, responsibility and experience in R&D, optimization and production are combined.

Rohtash Kumar

Rohtash Kumar

Vice President Manufacturing, Bachem Americas, Inc.

Rohtash Kumar holds a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry (Delhi University) with an emphasis in total synthesis, and an MBA with a focus in Operation Management. Rohtash went on to complete postdoctoral work at the University of Alberta and National Research Council of Canada in oligopeptide chemistry. After several years of API manufacturing experience at Sigma-Aldrich, Apotex, and other industries, Rohtash joined Bachem Americas in 2015 as Director of Manufacturing at the Torrance, CA location. After increasing responsibilities, he became Vice President of Manufacturing in 2018. In 2020, Rohtash moved to the Vista, CA location as Vice President of Manufacturing while supporting the manufacturing activities at Torrance. Rohtash prioritizes training, commitment, quality, and a first-time-right approach as cornerstones to successful API manufacturing.

Vice President Production, Bachem Vionnaz

Frank studied chemistry and obtained his PhD in Bonn (Germany). He joined Bachem in 2011 as the Director Technology & Development and in 2013 took the position of Vice-President Production working at the Vionnaz site. Frank is responsible for all the large-scale productions within the Bachem group. An organic chemist by trade, before joining Bachem, he held various management positions in CMOs and CROs in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and the Netherlands.

Site Manager, Bachem (UK) Ltd.

Julie graduated with a B.Sc. in Chemistry from the University of Liverpool, UK, in 1987 and joined Peninsula Laboratories Europe Ltd (PLE) working as a peptide chemist until 1988.  After one year working in the Peptide R&D group at Astra Zeneca in Alderley Park, UK, she returned to PLE and completed her M.Sc / Ph.D part-time at the University of Manchester, UK. She has held various positions within PLE and subsequently Bachem (UK) Ltd, and became Site Manager in 2013.

Hendrik Moorlag

Site Manager Vista, Bachem Americas, Inc.

Hendrik (Henk) joined Bachem in 2020 as the site manager of the facility at Vista (California).  Henk started his career as a process chemist and has spent 20 years with Roche in various technical and management positions at multiple locations, including 5 years in Basel, Switzerland, where he was responsible for management of drug substance external manufacturing.  Henk also gained experience working at a CDMO for several years. Henk holds a PhD in organic chemistry from the University of Groningen (the Netherlands) and completed a postdoc at Colorado State University.

Divina Peralta

Vice President, Supply Chain Management, Bachem Americas, Inc.

Divina joined Bachem Americas, Inc. in Torrance, CA, in 2006 in the Purchasing Department and successively transitioned to management positions focusing on Logistics and Distribution.  She currently holds the position of Vice President of Supply Chain Management for Bachem Americas, responsible for both the Torrance and Vista sites. Divina holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, with a concentration in Management Information Systems from California State University of Long Beach. In addition to her daily leadership role, Divina also serves as a member of the Bachem Americas, Inc. Executive Committee.

Daniel Samson

Vice President API Manufacturing

Daniel joined Bachem’s headquarters in Switzerland in 2007 after obtaining his PhD in chemistry from University of Konstanz, Germany. As a team leader he has been responsible for the synthesis and purification of peptides and small proteins. Later, as a lab head he focused on process optimization, technology transfer, Quality by Design, and scale-up of synthetic peptide manufacturing procedures. In 2010, Daniel moved to Bachem UK  to focus on research-grade custom syntheses and technology transfer. From 2012, he has been leading Bachem’s GMP manufacturing groups back in Switzerland. He is currently a Vice President API Manufacturing and has full responsibility for all large-scale solid phase peptide and oligonucleotide syntheses, downstream operations, and CMC activities within Bachem AG.

Beat joined Bachem as a chemist in 1982, and has in-depth knowledge in solution phase peptide chemistry. He has held several leading positions in development, production, supply chain and services. Since 2014, Beat has led the Bachem site in Bubendorf as Site Manager.

Vice President Global Marketing

In 2020, Manuela joined Bachem as Vice President Global Marketing based in Bubendorf. She holds a PhD in Biochemistry. Prior to Bachem, Manuela worked more than 20 years in roles with increasing responsibility for Pfizer, Novartis, Novo Nordisk, Vifor-Fresenius and GC Aesthetics, during the last 10 years at Vice President- or C-level. With her broad marketing and leadership experience she puts a strong focus on market intelligence, customer centricity and digital marketing.

Ralph Schönleber

Vice President R&D

Ralph is a chemist by training, with a PhD in organic chemistry. He joined Bachem in 2003. After increasing responsibilities in the fields of process development (scale-up strategies), process research and custom synthesis, he became Head of the Process Research Department in 2010 and two years later Head of the GMP Process Development Department. Since 2015, Ralph is VP R&D and member of Bachem’s International Research Committee. In 2019, Bachem entered the oligonucleotide business which is under his supervision in R&D.

Christoph Schuhr

Vice President Quality Assurance & Regulatory Affairs

Christoph has a PhD in chemistry from the Technical University of Munich in Germany. He has worked with Bayer AG (Wuppertal) in analytical research, with Roche Diagnostics (Mannheim) in Quality Control, and Roche Pharma (Grenzach-Wyhlen) in Quality Assurance.  In 2017, Christoph joined Bachem in Bubendorf. He has held his current role as Vice President Quality Assurance & Regulatory Affairs since 2018.

Site Manager & Senior Vice President at Bachem Vionnaz

Martin is the Site Manager of our large-scale production site of Vionnaz based in Switzerland (SUI). He holds a PhD in Organic Photochemistry from the University of Basel and started his career working at Ciba Specialty Chemicals as a process development chemist. He joined Bachem Vionnaz in 2003, first as the VP of Production, and after successfully setting up the site’s large-scale manufacturing operations he became site manager in 2011.

Christian Stähelin

Vice President HR Europe at Bubendorf

Christian is the Vice President HR Europe based in Bubendorf. As a peptide chemist by training, he joined Bachem in 2001. After 14 years in a management position in R&D, Christian completed a Master’s Degree in Human Resources Leadership and took over the role of Head of HR in Bubendorf. He was promoted to his current role in 2020.

Vice President of CMC Development, Bachem Americas, Inc.

Matteo joined Bachem in 2004 as Director of Research. During his career at Bachem Americas he covered both the position of VP of R&D responsible for process development, and VP of Manufacturing responsible for commercial production. In his current position as VP of CMC Development, he supports Bachem customers in identifying the activities assuring a successful CMC development. Matteo holds a Doctorate in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology from University of Milano, School of Pharmacy.

Wei Wang

Wei Wang

Vice President, Production at BTO, Bachem Americas, Inc.

As Vice President of Production at Bachem Torrance, Wei is responsible for GMP manufacturing of Generic and NEC peptides as well as API commercial production. He is a chemist by training in carbohydrate synthesis, oligonucleotide synthesis, and peptide production for 30 years. Prior to joining Bachem in 2020, he had worked with a peptide company, CSBio and led TIDES automation, peptide process development and commercial production. He holds a PhD degree in Chemistry from the Chinese academy of sciences (CAS).

Torsten Wöhr

Torsten Wöhr

Vice President, Head of Oligonucleotides

Torsten brings 25 years of industry experience to the team, with an emphasis on TIDES manufacturing and CMC development.  Together with a small team of dedicated professionals, he launched Bachem’s oligonucleotide program in 2019 and is developing it into a new core business with great prospects. Prior to joining Bachem, Torsten held commercial leadership roles in pharmaceutical manufacturing and life sciences companies including Genzyme, Corden Pharma, and Abcam. He holds a PhD in Bio-organic Chemistry from the University of Lausanne, and a MBA from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zürich.
