Bachem UK, our Centre of Excellence for Research Chemicals in St Helens, hosted a visit for 55 final-year students from Cronton College to give students a deeper understanding of real-world STEM careers. This experience provided them with an inside look at how STEM skills translate into practical applications in the pharmaceutical industry.

On November 11th, students from Cronton College visited Bachem UK, eager to gain insights into potential STEM career paths. As they near graduation, many are considering their next steps, whether continuing education or entering the workforce. The visit provided a valuable opportunity to see how their studies could apply in a real-world setting.

The day began with an introduction from Gavin Noble, Director of Production at Bachem UK, who explained Bachem’s role in the pharmaceutical industry and how peptides contribute to drug development. Margaret Price, Senior Synthesis Technician, then shared her career journey, demonstrating how entry-level positions can lead to long-term career growth within the company.

Following the presentations, students toured the facility, where they got an up-close look at automated peptide synthesizers and HPLC machines—essential tools used in pharmaceutical production. They saw how precision and innovation ensure the highest quality standards in peptide manufacturing.

To wrap up the visit, students participated in a Q&A session, where they explored career pathways in STEM, learned about apprenticeships and placement opportunities at Bachem UK, and received valuable advice from experienced professionals.
