Microspheres and Nanoparticles for Peptide Delivery

Delivery of peptides is a challenging task due to their poor stability toward proteolytic enzymes, their large size and poor penetration into cells. The great innovation in this field relies on the formulation of microspheres and nanoparticles to encapsulate the peptide in order to enhance its bioavailability and therapeutic efficacy.

Microparticle formulation has been successfully applied in a number of commercial products containing peptides as active pharmaceutical ingredients. The use of nanoparticles for delivering proteins and peptides are still in early stages of development and is expected to mature in near future.

Dr. Jyothi Thundimadathil, Associate Director, CMC

 

Dr. Jyothi Thundimadathil is an Associ­ate Director at Bachem Americas Tor­rance facility. At Bachem he is focusing on NCE (New Chemical Entities) projects and CMC development during drug development program cov­ering peptides and related molecules. He has more than 18 years of experience in peptide chemistry, previously serving in various roles such as Chemistry Director, Mar­keting Director and R&D Group Leader in peptide indus­try. After earning his PhD in Applied Chemistry from CUSAT and NCL (India) he worked as post-doctoral fellow at Ben Gurion University (Israel), IUPUI (USA) and Purdue Univer­sity (USA). He has published more than 60 papers, including peer-reviewed articles, reviews, invited articles in popular scientific magazines, technical infor­mation in encyclopedia of chemical reagents, book chap­ters and patents.

Chris McGee, Sr. Director, Business Development

 

Chris is the Senior Director of Business Development for Bachem Americas. In this role, he and his field-based team of peptide experts represent the front line of communications related to the development and manufacturing of peptide and oligonucleotide based new chemical entities. Chris has nearly a decade of experience at Bachem, and prior to this earned his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry at the University of California, Irvine.
