Bachem is committed to its responsibility towards employees, the environment, society and customers. Following the principles described in the Code of Conduct, we stand by our values of integrity, honesty and fairness in running a global business. The company has upheld its commitment to the Responsible Care® program for over two decades, promoting responsible handling of resources and risks, and making a key contribution to sustainability.

In order to continuously improve its performance as an attractive employer, in safeguarding the environment, in acting ethically and in guaranteeing the highest quality of products and services, Bachem runs a CSR Management System. We strongly believe that CSR is a prerequisite for lasting business success. Moreover, being well aware that this is also a customer requisite, we take responsibility for our value chain, looking and acting beyond our company boundaries.

To leverage our CSR performance, an in-depth materiality analysis was conducted in 2019. The Chief Executive Committee (CEC) identified, in a multiple step process involving key stakeholders of Bachem, the topics where the present and future economic, environmental, and social impacts of the organization are significant and substantially affect the interests and expectations of stakeholders.

This analysis resulted in a list of 20 topics being material for Bachem. By managing these topics, we aim to ensure being an attractive employer, safeguarding the environment, acting ethically and guaranteeing the highest quality in our products and services.


Being an attractive employer

Bachem is a market leader and thus needs the best employees to maintain this position. The workforce needs to be motivated to be innovative and meet the future needs of customers. Safeguarding the environment

Bachem takes responsibility for future generations by a careful handling of resources and avoiding environmental risks. We continually improve our ecological performance, and develop and implement new approaches for enhancing employees’ environmental awareness.

Bachem reduces its relative resource and energy consumption as well as environmental impacts incl. Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions by following the principles of sustainability and green chemistry. Waste production is being kept as low as possible for technical and occupational health reasons by managing the type and amount of raw materials used, by the way they are applied, and by optimizing reuse and recycling.


Acting ethically

For the Bachem Group, ethically correct behavior and integrity are essential for lasting business success. The professional and personal integrity of our employees is a prerequisite for meeting the high standards of all stakeholders. Our principles of ethical behavior and integrity are binding to all staff, are set down in writing, and are applied without exception. To that end all Bachem employees receive regular training based on a Conduct@Bachem video, available in a French and a German version as well.

Bachem obliges all its sites to obey all laws and regulations. We respect and comply with the principles expressed in the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights. Additionally, we do not tolerate any form of corruption or bribery and compete fairly and respectfully. As we look and act beyond company boundaries, we commit ourselves to sustainable procurement and involve our key stakeholders in an ongoing transparent, accurate, open and honest dialogue.

As part of our business model, we support the development of new medicines and drugs all the way from early stage inception and development, through their clinical testing and market approval and finally in their later life cycle as mature or generic products. Bachem ensures absolute quality and safety by comprehensively controlling its manufacturing processes.

UN Sustainable Development Goals

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, formulates Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and strategies to improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth. Aligning our Code of Conduct and the topics regarded as material with the SDG reveals that Bachem supports diverse SDG with a focus on the following four.

About this statement

Modern slavery is an emerging global issue that businesses need to be alert to and prepared to address. Bachem expects that employees and suppliers will reject modern slavery.


This statement is made pursuant to section 54, Part 6 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015, with respect to the financial year ending December 31, 2016, and sets out the steps that Bachem has taken to help ensuring that modern slavery and human trafficking does not occur in our business operations or within our supply chain.


This statement has been approved by Bachem Holding AG board of directors and will be reviewed and updated annually.
